SUNDAY MARCH 21ST 5PM $10 and up, students $5 and up EUGENE FOR CHILE BENEFIT CONCERT
Everyone is invited to come and enjoy an evening of Latin American music, art and poetry in tribute to the courage of the survivors of the Chile earthquake. Sliding scale admission $10 or more, students $5 or more.
On February 27, 2010, Chile was struck by a devastating 8.8 magnitude earthquake and tsunami that killed hundreds of people and left millions homeless. The Eugene for Chile solidarity group is hosting an evening of Chilean and Latin American music and poetry to help the survivors rebuild their villages and resume their livelihoods as fishermen and small farmers. Local Chilean musicians Ricardo Cárdenas, Connie Guerrero and the Andean group Onedinos will perform traditional music. There will be a reading of Latin American poetry by Blanca Aranda and Paulo Henriquez, and a silent art auction with pieces donated by renowned local artists including Mavelle Featherstone and Dorothy Dunn.
Proceeds will help rebuild coastal communities devastated by the tsunami and help indigenous mapuche communities purchase seeds and other supplies to resume their farming and fishing activities.
